Foyle Obon 2024 was a super special festival as we welcomed the amazing RAW TAIKO from Canada to Derry to work with our Irodori Teens and to perform at the festival. They blew everyone away with their energy and their power!
We were also delighted to have our new group of Taiko for Carers who performed for the very first time, alongside our Taiko for Mental Health and Wellbeing group Himawari Taiko and Irodori Teen Taiko.
Ibuki Taiko gave a special performance of their new composition “Inis’, written especially to bring a bit of Ireland with them to their performance at Big Little Taiko Festival on Sado Island as part of Kodo’s Earth Celebration. So exciting!
The wonderful Masako Carey held us all in thrall telling her traditional Japanese stories and tales in our storytelling hut. Katsu Umetsu and Arthur treated us all with their Kakigori special, and we had Shino and Warren from Piricaink selling their kawaii good. Not to mention the fabulous Yukari Norris and her wonderful Hannari dancers who had a very special guest appearance from MatsuKen!
